The word release pops up every time I think of my current financial situation. Financially, it has been a nightmare for quite some time and as such it leaves me many times at a place of frustration and depression. So I took it upon myself to look at the meaning of release. The dictionary defines release as an escape from confinement, to set free or to rescue. As my thoughts play along with the meaning of this word, I then asked the question, 'what is the relevance of this word to my situation?" As I opened the Bible to have my morning devotions, I was inclined to pay attention to Deuteronomy 15:1-6, which says At the end of every seven years you must cancel debts. 2 This is how it is to be done: Every creditor shall cancel any loan they have made to a fellow Israelite. They shall not require payment from anyone among their own people, because the Lord’s time for canceling debts has been proclaimed. 3 You may require payment from a foreigner, but you must cancel any debt your fellow Israelite owes you. 4 However, there need be no poor people among you, for in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance, he will richly bless you, 5 if only you fully obey the Lord your God and are careful to follow all these commands I am giving you today. 6 For the Lord your God will bless you as he has promised, and you will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. You will rule over many nations but none will rule over you.(NIV Version). This scripture has turned my mourning into dancing for I am convinced that the word release came to assure me that I would be set free from these debts. Some things stood out to me:

  1. The first verse says at the end of every seven years you must cancel all debts. 2014 is the second seventh year from year 2000.

  2. There are conditions under which this debt cancellation would be recieved; that is, by fully obeying the Lord and following his commandments, (verse 5)

  3. When we recieve this blessing, its not for us but the people around us in need (verse 4)

  4. God keeps his promises (verse6)

  5. We are the head and not the tail and as such we would be lenders and not burrowers.(verse 6)

One must be inclined to the voice of God in order to hear HIM and that which HE is commanding us to do. Only HIS sheep would hear HIS voice..........LOOK OUT 2015, I'm coming in DEBT FREE!!!!
